Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College For Women is managed by the prestigious Dr. Alagappa Chettiar Educational Trust, founded in the legacy of Padma Bhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar, a visionary philanthropist who devoted his life and wealth to the cause of education. The Trust oversees multiple educational institutions across Karaikudi and continues to uphold the founder's dream of making quality education accessible to all.

Under the dynamic leadership of the Trust, URCW has grown from a fledgling institution established in 2006 to a NAAC Grade A accredited college with 306 university ranks, 13 UG programs, 5+ PG programs, and a thriving research culture.

Dr. Ramanathan Vairavan, the Chairman of the Dr. Alagappa Chettiar Educational Trust, carries forward the grand educational legacy of his grandfather, Padma Bhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar. Under his visionary leadership, the Trust has expanded its educational footprint, establishing new institutions and elevating existing ones to national prominence.

His commitment to women's empowerment through education is exemplified by the founding and growth of Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College For Women, which he named in honour of his mother, the Late Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan.

The college is named after the Late Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan, the beloved daughter of Padma Bhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar. A woman of grace, intellect, and compassion, she embodied the values of education, service, and women's empowerment that the college strives to instil in every student.

Her legacy lives on through the thousands of women who graduate from URCW each year, equipped with knowledge, confidence, and the determination to make a positive impact on society.

The Alagappa Legacy

Padma Bhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar (1909-1957) was one of India's greatest philanthropists and educationists. He donated his entire wealth towards the establishment of educational institutions in Karaikudi, including Alagappa University, Alagappa College of Technology (Anna University), and numerous schools and colleges that continue to shape the lives of millions.

The Dr. Alagappa Chettiar Educational Trust, established to carry forward his vision, manages a network of educational institutions that span from primary education to postgraduate studies and research. Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College For Women stands as a proud testament to this enduring commitment to education and women's empowerment.
