Consumer club started in 2022 at Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College for Women, aims to facilitate the need for creating awareness among students and empower students with knowledge and awareness of consumer-related issues. Prepare the students to face the world with confidence backed by knowledge and also awareness about consumer laws and equip them with life skills enabling them to lead better lives. The students’ consumer club aims at creating educated and informed consumers of the future. To organize and actively participate in consumer Protection programs organized in college as well as in the locality to obscene National Consumer and World Consumer Rights Day.

Objectives

1. To advice individual Consumers and Protect their rights.
2. To ensure prices of goods ,fair and appropriate with relevance to their quality and value
3. To encourage the involvement of society and citizen in the consideration, standardization and basic provision of their rights
4. To educate consumers, balance consumer needs and degree of protection and provide relevant consumer rights and entitlements

1. Guest Lecture on Consumer Protection Act

Consumer Club on 9^th September 2022, conducted a guest lecture on the “Consumer Protection Act”. The session was handled by Adv. Gowtham BBE, BL. More than 180 students have participated and benefited. Students enthusiastically asked and clarified their doubts in the questioning session.

2. Poster presentation competition

As a part of the Consumer Club initiative, a Poster presentation competition on the topic of Consumer Rights and Responsibility, Consumer Legal Protection was conducted by the club on 21^st October 2022. Nearly ten students have participated.

3. Awareness Program on Misleading Advertisement Report

As a part of Consumer Club activities, an awareness program was conducted by the club on 13^th February 2023 on the topic ‘Misleading Advertisement’. The session was handled by   Dr. B. Sudha, Professor, Department of Banking Management, Alagappa University. More than 110 students have participated and benefited.

4. Pencil Drawing and Slogan Writing Competition

Consumer Club on 7^th March 2023, conducted a Pencil Drawing and Slogan Writing competition. Twenty one students have participated.

1. Memes Creation Competition

As a part of Consumer Club initiative, a Poster presentation competition on the topic of Consumer Rights and Responsibility, Consumer Legal Protection was conducted by the club on 1^st September 2023. More than ten students have enthusiastically participated and showcased their talents.

2. Intercollegiate E-Quiz on Consumer Protection Awareness

Consumer Club conducted an intercollegiate e-quiz on “Consumer Protection Awareness,” from February 5th to February 10th, 2024, through Google Forms, which was a resounding success. With an overwhelming response of more than 290 participants, students from various colleges across Tamil Nadu actively participated.

3. Consumer Day Pledge

On March 15, 2024, in alignment with the directive from the Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, the National Consumer Day and World Consumer Rights Day were commemorated with zeal at Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College for Women. The Consumer Club organized a special “Consumer Day Pledge” ceremony, commencing promptly at 11:00 AM.
