DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY AND CLINICAL LAB TECHNOLOGY

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Microbiology & Clinical Lab Technology made its humble genesis in 2009 to provide quality education. From the day of inception, the motto of our department is to provide holistic and intellectually perspective education to the women of Sivaganga district. The vision and mission of our secretary Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan is to provide technical education to women. Following her foot-steps, our department promotes Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology& CLT in a holistic manner. Our Department blossomed with 7 students and 2 staff members and after successfully completing 14 years of fruitful service, we are now having 91 students and 4 faculty members.

Our curriculum is framed according to Alagappa university norms. We enable students to face the competitive world with the state of the art Lab facilities. So as our students are qualified to be placed in reputed industries, R&D labs and corporate sectors across the globe. We have signed MoU with CBNR, Coimbatore, KCLAR, Madurai and also tie up with RKC Laboratories, Karaikudi. Hence we offer Certificate Courses like Immunodiagnostics and Haematology, Organic Food and Nutrition, Recombinant DNA Technology, Bioinformatics, etc., to inculcate technological skills as well as entrepreneurial skills. Further, we mould them to be responsible citizen through value education.

We offer world-class teaching experience through well qualified and well experienced faculty members. We have been following the ICT-based teaching which will promote interactive learning among the students. As a prolific department, our teaching pedagogies are student-centred.

Our department students are educated by faculty who are passionate about research. They play an integral role in initiating the quest for research in students. As an effort, we engage students with mini-projects. We also encourage and guide them to publish their research projects in reputed journals. From all these signs of progress and growth, it’s well envisaged that the students of the Microbiology & CLT Department are well sustained to outrival the competitive scientific World.

Objective:

  • The primary objective is to impart quality education in the field of Microbiology and Clinical Lab Technology. This involves providing students with a strong foundation in microbiological and clinical principles, laboratory techniques, and practical skills.
  • The department aims to create trained microbiologists who can contribute to various domains like Food Production, Pharmaceuticals, Agrochemicals, Environment, Agriculture, Public Health Research, etc.,
  • The department connects and empowers communities of scientists, researchers, and practitioners interested in microbes. By fostering communication and collaboration, it helps to unlock the potential of microbiological knowledge.
